This was actually a test shot while scouting a location
in the wine country of Santa Barbara county. Yesterday
we drove through Santa Ynez Valley, past every vineyard
and interesting ranch we could find. This was early in the
search, but so far it is the front runner. I'll be spending
some more time comsing up with a few other options but
I'm pretty happy with the results so far.

This is a beautiful little church that we always stop
at when we are in Carmel. This was the first time we noticed
the cool lamp though. We are normally there during the day.

December 25, 2008
The Barnyard shopping center decorated for Christmas, Carmel, CA

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

This is a beautiful little shopping center in Carmel, called The Barnyard.
After dinner at our favorite restaurant in Carmel we
spent the evening wandering around and checking out Christmas lights.
On the right is a great place called Succulent Gardens. If you wander
around my sites for a while you'll see why a place like that is a real magnet for me.
In fact a few of our Epis even came from there. On the left is a great little candy shop.
(Try the grasshopper bark and the caramel cashew turtles if you stop there!)

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

I like the details in nature. The pattern of the veins
in the leaves on this grape vine really caught my attention.
But I had to find just the right leaf to get an angle with
the sun behind it so you could truly appreciate the structure.

Last week we took a walk on Butterfly Beach right before
sunset. The birds were having fun in the surf staying just
ahead of us. But when the sun was just about to disappear,
they decided it was time to stop playing with us and find
a good spot for the night.

I have always really loved the background in this image.
In sepia it makes it look even more like a studio shot
with a backdrop in the background. But it is actually
just a very low aperture shot to make the other plants
in the distance appear totally out of focus so you can
concentrate on the beauty in the foreground.

I love the roots on this Bonsai tree. I had a lot of fun with a bunch
of different angles, but this is my favorite. In fact it is the
image that inspired this site. When I first took the image
I thought it looked almost sepia as it was. But I knew
I wanted to do more with it. It took a year to get back
around to it, but finally I took the time to set things up.
